Airfare and room offersOccasionally we get airfair and room offers for Tunica, which in a way, baffles me since we only live 5 hours away. We got some today from Horseshoe - $169 per person, which we will not take advantage of. What would be more likely to get us into their casino would be something as simple as 10 bucks and a food comp. Actually, just a food comp might get us over there during our upcoming September trip. It doesn't take a whole lot to get us in a place these days.
Anyone care to add some thoughts?

Those air/room offers really aren't that enticing to me. They fly out of Chattanooga, usually, which is 45 minutes from my house, then you'd have to get to the airport at least an hour in advance, then the hour and 45 minute flight, then wait an hour after you get there to unload the luggage and an hour or more to go from the airport to the casino and stand in line to get your room... it's easier just to drive 5.5 to 6 hours. Besides gas isn't high enough to justify spending $200 per person on the flights... yet.
Free play and food is nice but you can only eat so many times a day, most times the food coupons go to waste on me.

I got a real nice one from GS a couple of weeks ago. It was FREE airfare and room out of either Milwaukee or Chicago. It was tempting, but #1 wasn't for the right dates, and #2, it puts you in town with no transportation. Wouldn't have been quite so bad when they had the shuttles, but now, without them, it limits you. I guess I would have Casino Center and be able to get to Grand. Who knows, though. If the offer comes at the right time, I might just jump on it!

We get the free airfare from either chattanooga or Atlanta to Harrahs Tunica all the time, but as Brian says, by the time we have to at the airport an hour (or 2 in Atlanta) and the drive/flight time it's quicker to drive our selves and have our own car so we can leave when WE decide.
We did ONCE fly out of chattanooga to Tunica in 2001 and it was the WORST! Plane was small, seats made you have to literally sit with your knees in your chest. And some schmuck (he was the director or some such crap) talked NON STOP over an intercom from the time we left chattanooga to Tunica. I wanted to scream.
Then there was the bus that took us from Memphis airport to Grand.......the smell from the bathroom was enough to kill you. I had some wet wipes in my purse that we kept over our noses. The on the trip home, the plane was delayed, the bus again stunk, and we hit horrible weather and were 2 hours late in landing.
Hence..........it was the last time we have flown anywhere and I have no intention of doing so again. Give me some free play and some food coupons and we are very happy. Save the airfare for those who can't drive.
Lisa I would advise you & Bruce to play on one card whenever you are playing together, this way the points add up faster and your coupons take a nice jump in the right direction, but don't do it if you aren't nearby each other. I've heard of players doing this and when one hit a jackpot on the others card they have witheld the jackpot or at the very least raised a major stink.
That's my one cent worth!
Cheers

Yes, I will agree that the airport hassle and then havng no transportation between casinos pretty much makes for a lousy deal. That is, unless a person can't or does not want to drive.
Luna, only "one" cent worth??? What's the world coming too? I guess times really are getting tough. However, I do agree with the playing on one card thing. That's good advice.

My TurnOk, so I don't drive. I am not gonna be on the road 10 plus hours by myself. Heck, I can't stay awake at my desk for 4 hours, how could I drive??? I would never make it to Tunica alive!
Traveling out of Chicago O'hare on Northwest Airlines to Memphis has been for the most, pretty OK in my book, however, it does pay to have friends picking you up at the airport.
Give me a free room. That is what I look for. Food is usually not a problem, but the room can be expensive, especially on weekends. Being a table player, I know my comps will never mirror what a slot player can expect. It seems unfair but I have come to accept this.
Last time I checked on the internet there was a company that does the shuttle runs between Memphis and the casino of your choice. I called them once and if I kinda remember, round trip was in the area of $80. That sure is cheaper than a cab fare or renting a car for a few days.
