Another Point of ViewAfter reading on another board someone who keeps knocking the Tunica Casinos, especially Gold Strike, I just had to post my point of view on our Forum. This person has made several posts about how tight the casinos have gotten, and how badly she was treated at GS, preferring now to play at Southland or in Vegas. Hey, we all have our preferences.
It's honestly been quite some time since I've gone to Vegas and I've never been to Southland. Just doesn't seem worth going to Southland when there are REAL casinos so close. Also, Vegas is a longer trip, I really didn't take advantage of much other than gambling there, and I like the "feel" of Tunica, plus getting together with my buddies.
As far as Gold Strike goes, they have always treated me very well. I have never had to pay for a room there or food there. The last several trips I've been given suites. Suites, VIP check in, goodie baskets, and a pretty decent amount of free play are hard to turn down. The remodeled rooms are very lovely, although I must say the art work isn't exactly my style. Kind of looks like drawings on my frig from the grandkids.
GS, as in any casino, can certainly "hoover" my money down. But, I've found, that's also where I've had my biggest wins. My last 2 trips have actually been "break-even" or even a little ahead for the GS portion. For example, my last trip on Friday I had had a really nice hit on my first machine. Unfortunately things got VERY ugly after that, and it ended up being a very bad day for losses. Saturday morning when I got up and went down to play, within a couple of hours I had already made back what I had lost on Friday. Ended up playing up and down the rest of the trip, breaking even for GS, unfortunately not for the trip.
Is it Vegas? No, but it meets my needs and is one of my Tunica home bases. Things can always change, but I think right now I'll take GS over some "pretend" casino a few miles away.

Lynn...I have to agree with you! Tunica does seem like home even to me! I had always went to Biloxi before and I do still go there but not quite as often as I once did! And low rollers like me can see a few cutbacks at all of the casinos...but the Fitz, and the Gold Strike still give me more in freeplay than most casinos do! But like you said...everyone has their preference, and if that's the way they feel...then they need to keep their A$$ out of Tunica and go on to Southland or Vegas or wherever they prefer to go!

Lynn and Bev, Everyone to his own kick...Right now my kick is Tunica, with a bit of Vegas once in a while.

Lynn,
Great post. I concur. It has been about 20 years since I was in Vegas and I am not upset. Tunica has everything I need. It is closer and less expensive than Vegas.
I love the GS. Although I am not a slot player, GS has always treated me fairly and Sharon Jackson has always been very accomodating.

Good post Lynn.
I believe it's one thing to criticize poor quality food or service. Maybe the room wasn't clean or staff wasn't receptive to your complaint. These things can be addressed as a negative reflection on any casino.
As for gaming....that's another story. Believe me I can win or lose in any given casino at anytime. Complaints on gambling I think are only valid if it's about a dealer or tech problems with machines. We all know that gaming is just that....sometimes it seems better than other times but I believe that's just you being there at the right moment.
I like the Gold Strike as well as other casinos in Tunica, just as I have favorites in Vegas. Sometimes it's because of location or just the feeling of comfort.
So if someone says they don't like a casino because they don't win there, doesn't understand gaming.
Before anyone gets in a knot here, I do understand the percentages and they are different on many VP machines, I feel that is the players responsibility to seek out the better pay tables. As long as players play the less advantageous machines we will see less of the better paying ones.
So yes, there are casinos I prefer over others, but I wouldn't say negative things about the other casinos just for the sake of trying to sound like a "Know It All".
