TR, Part OneT.R. Part 1.
Hey, it’s Wednesday, September 23rd and I will be heading to Tunica
on Saturday, the 26th. I think I can wait, but after being held out of
Tunica for a year now …. ?.. I dunno! It’s a long way! And might rain!
Thursday, Sept. 24th. Packing and occasionally looking at the calendar.
I look at my watch and it’s moving slower than that calendar! Finish the
packing—start loading. Go get gas & snacks.. it’s still early evening!
Dang, I forgot there’s a football game on, but it’s over before I know it.
The calendar still hasn’t moved so I decide I’ll help it along a bit and I
decide to leave Friday morning in case my sore back objects to the drive
and I need to stop overnight. Just in case, mind you.
Friday begins with a nice sunrise and a hurried departure from Charleston.
Hmmm, I 26 looks familiar. Oh, yeah, I was here a year ago.. It still looks
the same and the weather is nice, so it’s time to set the cruise somewhere near
the speed limit.
I’m doing well until my kidneys begin working at top speed while my bladder
is on EZ Fill. These dang stops cost at least 20 minutes and many miles! And
they keep coming too often. So much that I pass up my Chili Pups and y’all know
how I usually can’t cross the Ga. State line before stopping at a Krystal! Not now!
I’m past Atlanta before stopping for construction!! Ahhh, not very long, I feel OK.
Birmingham is still here-- - I was beginning to wonder if it had moved west.
On to Jasper where there is a “Cheap” motel where I have stopped before, but now
the new highway bypasses Jasper. I get off the Int. HWY but don’t know where the
Motel is, from here, and they changed the name couple years ago—I forget it. So,
I’m asking directions without knowing where I’m going or where I am nor the
name of a motel. After two attempts at getting directions ( Failures) I ask a young
guy who’s fueling a plumber’s truck & get better directions. Only problem --- he
doesn’t know right from left! I guessed right and found the motel, Whew!
Coulda been halfway to Southaven by now if I’d kept at it.
Saturday, Sept. 26th… Me and Ole Willie are On The Road Again! Without any breakfast..
There’s a McDonalds just up the road---- OOPS! Closed.
Two plus hours later in Tupelo I stop for breakfast—shoulda kept going! Not a
good McD’s!! An Egg Mcmuffin and rolling again.
Reach Southaven just after noon, find a motel quickly and head on to Tunica.
Macy and Steve are there, and I find them at Fitz! Wow, it’s been so long!
But it’s great to see them again after a hundred years or so!! Michelle
(Their neighbor) came too, and it’s good to see her, also.
Macy, Steve and I play some slots, VP and can’t do much good, I lost at
Craps while Steve beat me, using my system which I was too chicken to use.
We had a great time “Catching Up” and I hated to leave & go back to Southaven.
I was in bed in just a few minutes and rose early, checked out and headed to
Tunica to meet the early birds, Bev, Jean and Lynn.
