Post subject: Lottery tickets!
Once upon a time I ordered some kitchen items for a gift.  When I opened the box to make sure my order was there...........lo and behold there were a stack of new lottery tickets inside!  Now what?   While it was tempting to scratch them and see what a big winner I was, I have a fear of jails.  I thought perhaps the poor UPS guy had dropped them into my package by accident.

So what should I do???  Well I did NOT scratch them but decided to seek some advice from my very good (honest) friends on a chat forum.   I counted the tickets and if I remember correctly there were about 150  $3 tickets.   So I ask my friends "what would you do?".

And to my utter astonishment each and every one of them said "scratch those suckers"  And do it NOW!!!!!!!!!!!  Shocking though it was, I could not bring myself to do it THAT day.  So I waited a day to see if the UPS guy would say anything when he came the next day.  He dropped another package off (no more tickets) and went about his merry way.

In the interim, I was getting e-mails from those aformentioned chatroom  friends asking me if I had scratched yet and what were the results.   I debated about what to do.  Turn them in??????  Call someone????  I was perplexed.

A few days later in chat again I was urged to scratch those babies.  So I finally did.  My kitchen was a mess................you have no idea how much of a mess those scratchings leave on the floor!   The net result was a total of $129 in "duboius" winnings.  So now what?   So again I turn to my chatroom buds.  "Cash em in", what was I waiting for.

With many promises of my "buds" to do jail time with me, send me cakes with files, and raise bail money I went to a local store to see what would happen.   I only took a few with me, maybe $20 worth.  When I hand the ticket to the nice lady she proceeds to run it through the machine.  Then she does it again, and again.  By now my head is about to explode, my feet start shuffling towards the nearest exit, and my heart is beating so loud I can't hear anything else.

"um. I don't know margaret" ,"where did you buy these? ("she knows me dammit) "maybe you should take these over to the lottery office and they can tell you what's wrong".

Oh sure.they can tell what's wrong, as they load me into the paddy wagon to have a sleep over with Big Bertha.  Yeah.

I tell her, oh sure thats just what I'll do, nice to see you buh bye!!!!!  I race home, tell hubby what happened and proceed to burn the rest of the incriminating evidence in the fireplace!   I make sure NOT to answer the door for weeks afterwards.    I still have nightmares!

So these "friends"...........what did they say?  Oh my they laughed and laughed.  It's so funny to put your "buds" up to no good and watch the fireworks from a SAFE distance.

The moral of this story.............Never trust the UPS guy or your distant (as in far enough away from the arm of the law) friends to give GOOD advice.   Next time, I hire a lawyer FIRST.

Hey Luna,  how long did it take to figure out how to get those tickets, anyhow?
I'm thinking you were about 16 years old before all that trouble got started!  I'm feelin' for that poor UPS guy!

Luna,

I well remember that night when you told us about the UPS guy and the lotto tickets....and you are so right there were those that had such sound advice for you and then the ones that led you astray....of course I gave you sound advice....

As the results unfolded all I remember was holding my sides from laughing so hard....you were so funny.

Yep....Lisa is right...it's a "Classic"!
