This is the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard in my entire life, for the love of god what the fuck is wrong with people in Michigan?

Officials in central Michigan say a 93-year-old man who owed more than $1,000 in unpaid electric bills froze to death inside his home -- where the municipal power company had restricted his use of electricity.
The company had put a "limiter" device in the home because of the unpaid bills. The device limits the power that reaches a home, and it blows out like a fuse if power consumption rises past a set level.
The manager of Bay City says the limiter was tripped sometime between the time of installation and the discovery of the man's body.
The body of Marvin Schur was discovered on January 17th. According to the Bay City Times, neighbors who found his body said the indoor temperature was below freezing.
Oakland County's deputy chief medical examiner says Schur died a "slow, painful death" from hypothermia.
The city manager says city workers keep the limiter on a house for 10 days, then shut off power entirely if the homeowner hasn't paid utility bills or arranged to do so. |

That is unbelieveable! I thought the northern states all had laws where they couldn't turn off power during the winter months. _________________

That is disgraceful! I read a little more on the story and it seems the man had over $1000 in unpaid power bills. To me that would have been a red flag to send someone to his home and make an assessment of his situation BEFORE installing anything that could shut his power off. Geez. This is why we all need to keep a close eye on our elderly neighbors.
I too thought there were laws in place that keep the power co. from shutting off power during the winter months.
My mom had a water leak she wasn't aware of last month, the power company sent her a letter informing her she was using way too much water, so we went and checked it out for her, found and fixed the leak. The power company said she DIDN'T have to pay the excess amount. Very nice of them. However, my mom is not that old and had she NOT opened and read the letter she wouldn't be aware of leak today. It has to be a two way street!
This is just so sad.

This is so sad....anyone to die because of a greedy power company.
We are supposed to be a state with the law forbidding power cut offs until the first of May I think.
