TRIP REPORT TUNICA April 21-24.2009:

Once again a very very nice free Junket (Harrah’s . . . thank you ) to Tunica.  This trip was April 21-24,2009 and I am sorry we missed you all when you went a couple days later.
This time . . . .. as last time . . .. we gave our first day/night a lot of our $$$ to Harrah’s Casino.  This casino is just dreadful unless you are ‘THE’ one in a million !!!!!! Thank God not a lot of our money was lost.  They now have ‘StarTrek’ slots (bank of 4).  They were new and not fired up at the time.  Our strategy was just to play there that night and head to the ‘Horseshoe’ (also Harrah’s) the next day.  Now that paid off !!!!!  Nice loose slots and I knocked them dead on 3-card poker (+$400).  ‘Y’ (queen) pulled $300 out of her silly slots . . . . loving it !!!!   I also did very well on a ‘5 TimesPay’ two quarter.  Just a very nice little casino with a better ‘than Paula Deen’s buffet’ by FAR.  And it is FREE with a little play on your ‘Rewards Card’.  We saw several good size jackpots being awarded.
Not big winners but had a great time and enjoyed our friends at the Horseshoe Buffet (it really is excellent).
I have just been informed by ‘Y’ we have a new offer for the next ‘FREE’ junket back to Tunica in June !!!!!!!!!!  Now . . . it is starting to be like living with Las Vegas down the street !!!!!
We tried all kinds of slots at ‘GoldStrike Casino’ with no returns at all.  But then again . . . .We do no get ‘rewards’ there and try not to play to much.
I do have to admit . . . it is exciting when you win and dumps when you don’t . . . . .
Just  a report here since we seem to becoming regulars at Tunica and may help you all.

WIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the report, Rich.  I can't seem to win at Harrah's either.  Try as I might, it just isn't in the cards for me.  Funny thing is, the last time I was there my sister was there too.  We were going to Harrah's to eat at Paula Deen's, and I told her to "low-ball" her play there, because it's so difficult to win.  Well, don't you know, she did pretty well there and came out ahead.  Guess I won't be giving any more advice.

I also enjoy the buffet at Horseshoe.  (With the exception of the dreaded Red Velvet Cake).  There's a lot of variety, and, although Paula Deen's is good, it's nice to have a few more options that aren't fried or soaked in butter.

Thanks again for the report, and looking forward to your report in June.  Hope you win big!

Thanks for the report Rich. Sounds like the HS treated you pretty well, including a good buffet.  It's fun to get some bang for your buck plus good food to top it off.

Good luck on your next trip!

My husband and I are planning to go to Tunica in June for our first time. Your review is a nice bit of help.
Would you happen to know whether the casinos and hotels are attached at Harrah's, the Sheraton, and the Horseshoe or will we need to use our car or take a shuttle.
One more question, what is the average price of the buffets and are there many options for simple dining, Thanks

Welcome, Belwood Sunshine.  Glad to have you aboard.  The hotels (there are 3 of them) at Harrah's are not attached to the casino.  There is a shuttle that runs between the casino and the hotels.  One of them is "sort of" attached.  You can walk to the casino under a short walkway.  The others would be quite a hike.

The hotels at both Horseshoe and Sheraton are attached to the casino.  There is also a shuttle that runs between the Harrah's and Horseshoe/Sheraton.  (They are right next door to each other).

As far as the buffet prices go, try looking at http://www.tunicaplayers.com/ (there's a link at the top of the page).  If you click on casinos, each individual casino will be there and you can click on each one to see the buffet prices and other food outlets.  (As prices can sometimes change quite often, these may not be entirely accurate, but should be pretty close.).

I know Harrah's has now also opened up a food court as well as other dining options.  Hope you have a great trip to Tunica and please post a trip report when you get back!

Thank you WILynn,
I am off to check the rates at the Horseshoe and Sheraton. While I like a good long walk DH doesn't so attached is great.
Would you happen to know if those hotels have fridges and perhaps microwaves. I am afraid that we travel on a pretty tight budget and spending $15.00 PP for supper will cut into our penny slot money rather drastically.

Rich
Nice trip report, especially the winning part...:
I don't have any luck (except bad) at Harrah's either. At one time in history I managed to win there, but not recently.
I liked some items at the Paula Deen buffet, but as others have noted, if it's not fried or lots of butter it's not Paula's. I think the HS buffet is a great buffet. Lots of choices and as Lynn said, all was good but the "Mystery Red Velvet Cake".
Sorry our dates didn't coincide, it would have been fun to meet up with you folks. Hopefully it will happen someday.
Good luck in June!

Welcome Belwood,
If you don't have a fridge in the room many of the hotels will bring a fridge to your room on request. None of the hotels that I've seen in Tunica have microwaves. At one time some of the suites did but none of the remodeled suites I've seen have them now.

Thanks again,
I booked at the Horseshoe in their Classic (we are on a very tight budget). I called and asked if they have fridges in their rooms and they said yes, we shall see. I will take a small travel cooler just in case. The micro is not so important but could be used to reduce costs again.
Thanks again for the answers. I will indeed give a report when we get back and most likely ask more questions before we depart the week of the 8th of June.
