Post subject: Fitz Riverview Buffet
|
|
|
|
Ate at the new Fitz Riverview Buffet last night and it's really a sight to behold.
First off the buffet is much larger with more seating and 4 separate themed stations.
This is the view from the frontish cashier area of the buffet. The station in the middle of the picture is the salad bar, to the left of it is the Chop Stix station with made to order Asian food, behind the guy in the white shirt is the Country Skillet and beyond that is the Texas Grill and in one of those pictures along the far right wall is the new desert bar.
Everything we had was very very good, I wish I would have wrote down everything that was on each station but I was too full by the time I got done eating.
Salad bar - Just the run of the mill salad bar, I just wish they had chopped onion instead of sliced onions. They also now offer 2 soups of the day, I opened them up and couldn't figure out what they were so I passed on them. On the back side of the salad bar, on the Chop Stix side of it they have assorted bite size seafoods, crawfish, peel and eat shrimp and stuff like that.
Chop Stix - Featured the regular Asian fare, egg rolls, fried rice, chicken in an assortment of sauces, pot stickers, fried shrimp, etc. I didn't get any of this I filled up on everything else but I will later today.
Country Skillet - Everything you'd ever want to eat from the South. Fried chicken, meat loaf, carving stations with ham and prime rib, gumbo, turkey and dressing, baked BBQ chicken, chicken and dumplings and probably alot of stuff I've forgotten. The sides were aplenty too, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese, boiled cabbage, creamed potatoes with new potatoes, spinach, and more, tons of stuff.
Texas Grill - Open grill with great tasting steaks, grilled chicken, grilled pork chops, baked sweet potatoes and regular potatoes with all the dressings.
Desert Bar - This is pretty much the same old stuff they had on the old desert bar sans the cheese cake, must be some kind of cheese cake shortage in MS right now. Now they offer 2 hot cobblers and 2 cold dishes, last night was banana pudding and something else I didn't recognize. But everything I had was delish!
This buffet remodel was probably the best thing Fitz could ever do to their food service department. For those like me that used to dread staying at Fitz because you could eat the same thing on the buffet for weeks at a time are in for a treat, although it's not impossible to eat the same thing for days and days at least there's ALOT more to choose from now. Fitz has done a great job with this buffet upgrade and they really have something to be proud of here.
Along with the upgrade in the food, there's sadly been an upgrade in prices also. Although not a huge increase in price, it's well worth the money.

Hey, Brian. Thanks for the nice review! I'm looking forward to it! How did they manage increasing both seating and the buffet? Is the Fitz Cafe still there, or did they close it down to make more room for the buffet? _________________

Fitz Cafe is history, it's now part of the non-smoking buffet seating _________________ W2G free since 1976

YES!!!!! That was such wasted space anyway. Open for such limited hours and such lousy service no one wanted to go there. Thanks, Brian. _________________

Brian....really nice overview of the new buffet. It sure sounds like a nice improvement. Like Lynn said, it's good they used the Fitz Cafe space, it was such bad service I didn't even care to go in there.
Brian, I'm thinking after reading this review that you might just have a chance of writing articles for Southern Gaming. Of course you'd have to interview a chef or two.. _________________ Jean

LOL Brian!
Brian, it really looks nice! Thanks for posting the pics and review. It doesn't even look like the same place.
Now they just need a snack bar for a quick bite when you just need a little something.
They are definitely heading in the right direction.
Thanks again Brian. Great Job!
